Abstract

Most often, academics propose that the end of Queen Victoria's reign (1901) could be considered as the starting point if we were to think of a precise historical period from which Modernism begins. Additionally, it was at this time that Britain's protracted period of stability came to an end. Due to the Boer War (1899–1902) and the immense impact imperialism had on English society, the nation was going through a time of shock. People started to pay attention to the social issues in their culture because they were tired of the exhausting characteristics of imperial growth. These changes laid the foundation for significant literary and social revolutions. It was gradually becoming apparent that the prior conventional forms were disappearing from literary genres including the novel, theater, and poetry.
